Meet the Artist | Jan Rose

Inspired by the beauty around her in Southwest Oklahoma, I think you’ll agree Jan Rose’s work is just inspiring!  Jan is our featured artist at our Meet the Artist event in April.

As a fellow flower junkie, I love Jan’s bright and warm renditions of beautiful blooms set to the colors of Oklahoma sunsets.  And then she pulls out these abstract paintings and just blows my mind.  Jan has found art throughout her life, a life she fills with work and family as well.  Her message to us is so uplifting and motivating, here’s a little preview in her own words:

I was born and raised in Pampa Texas (North TX considered the TX Panhandle) but have been in OK more than 40 years most of which have been spent on 80 acres east of Blair. I started painting over 30 years ago when a dear friend taught me to oil paint realistic landscapes and florals.  Life kind of got in the way and many years passed before I picked up a paint brush again.

There’s always something beautiful to see in SW OK.  Especially when the seasons change. There are a million shades of green.   And we have some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  For inspiration, all you have to do is look out your door.  But I also like to look at the colors in fashion and home decor.  Inspiration can vary from many things such as nature, to a piece of wrapping paper or even a pillow.  You just never know where you might find it.

I work in many mediums including watercolor, alcohol ink, encaustic wax and acrylic paint.  I lean toward bright vibrant colors with a more impressionistic abstract look.  I hope that art, in all its many forms, might somehow affect the way people see their everyday world.

I’m a grandmother and great-grandmother.  It’s never too late to get inspired and get creative.

Oh, you guys, she’s so fabulous!
